Eight protesters who had bought property in South Cyprus stood outside the Olympia in London where ‘A Place in the Sun Live’ was occurring. Two South Cyprus companies were among those taking part. The aim pf the protestors was to warn off potential buyers from investing in the South because in their cases they had experienced problems including their property being destroyed in an ongoing land-slippage in Pissouri, Swiss Franc loans incorrectly promising low repayments and a double selling fraud.

There have been claims that a former North Cyprus official close to recently resigned Finance Minister, Serdar Denktaş, demanded a $750,000 “bribe” from the head of the Turkish firm hired to redevelop Ercan airport should be investigated, main opposition leader Ersin Tatar has said.
Yesterday, the leader of the Democrat Party (DP), Finance Minister Serdar Denktaş handed in his resignation to Prime Minister Tufan Erhürman. This was followed by an announcement that the People’s Party (HP) was pulling out of the government and the leader of the Republican Turkish Party-Prime Minister Tufan Erhürman said that he would be handing in his resignation to President Mustafa Akıncı today.
The South’s President Nicos Anastasiades has accused Turkey of launching a second invasion of Cyprus by deploying a survey vessel to drill for hydrocarbons near the island. Turkey sent its Fatih vessel to the area to conduct drilling for oil and gas with plans to conduct the drilling not inside Cyprus’s actual EEZ, but in territory that Greece claims for its own.

Turkey’s President Erdogan has managed to void the results of the Istanbul election, where he lost to his opposition. After heavy pressure from President Erdogan’s AKP Party, Turkish authorities decided that there was probably fraud involved, despite no evidence being offered, and so the election had to be rerun – probably until President Erdogan’s Party won.
Since Director of North Cyprus Bayrak Radio TV, Aysu Basri Akter, joined the company last year he has progressively moved towards making it more Green. He started by introducing recycling bins to become the first North Cyprus business to implement the President’s Office ‘Think Clean Recycling’ project. His latest innovation is the introduction of 370 solar panels which currently supply 20% of the company’s electricity and eventually will supply 50%.
Perhaps many of you believe that reporting that A North Cyprus MP Believes He is Above the Law is worth publishing. Well, we’ll do it anyway. It appears that someone borrowed and drove MP Bertan Zaroğlu’s hire car while not being included on the insurance document. The driver was stopped during a routine spot check on the main road to Near East University in Lefkoşa on Monday, 15 April, and after officers established that the person behind the wheel was not insured to drive the vehicle they impounded the car.
