Here are a few summaries of articles which may be of interest to someone, you never know. The main article could be summarised in a few words – expats are confused. They shouldn’t be, it’s simple, now over 60’s expats will have to apply for residency if they want to stay in North Cyprus for longer than 90 days, probably.
North Cyprus newspaper Daily Hakikat (03.10.19) has reported that North Cyprus Minister of Tourism and Environment, Unal Ustel, speaking to Hakikat Web TV, said that with the slogan “Let’s make the two million tourists become two billion” is the North Cyprus tourist goal for the number of tourists who will be visiting the TRNC next year.
If you want up to date North Cyprus News then Cyprus Today is not the best source. I suggest going online and using some of the better websites there, specialising on North Cyprus News. For example, North Cyprus Free Press. It’s a wonderful publication – only saying.
The Cypriot Shipping Ministry has announced plans to launch a ferry link connecting Cyprus and Greece, starting in May 2020, just in time for the peak summer season. In the UK, newspapers like Cyprus Today would be pushed through your letterbox for free and would be skimmed in 5 minutes before ending up at the bottom of the parrot cage. It doesn’t succeed with this edition, in my opinion.
This week’s Cyprus Today adds details to some of the articles already published on NCFP. North Cyprus News is best followed online as newspapers usually carry out of date news. I don’t know why Cyprus Today hasn’t moved into the internet in a much bigger way than it has, using adverts to monetise its online presence in the same way as the paper version – with adverts. Oh well.
According to Bayrak television (12.09.19, https://www.brtk.net/patlamalarda-can-kaybi-yasanmadi/), a series of severe explosions occurred in the village of Çatalköy on Thursday early morning at a munitions depot. A fire broke after the initial explosion.
According to the North Cyprus daily Havadis (09.09.19) the North Cyprus Minister of Interior, Aysegul Baybars, has announced that new more “tight regulations” for entering the North will come into force on 23 October 2019.
This week’s Cyprus Today has very little local news worth reading but here are a few articles plus the first few paragraphs to help you decide whether you want to spend £1.50 buying the newspaper.
Wow, there is some interesting North Cyprus News in Cyprus Today – the inside story of Maras, the Famagusta ‘Ghost Town’. Mind you, there is not much else to interest those not already living in North Cyprus.
