I am sure some of you will have known Ingo, if not by name then by sight.
I met Ingo very shortly after arriving in North Cyprus. A friend took Chris and I to his little unofficial ‘bar’ in his small shed-like building in the winter and his garden in the summer. Ingo lived in Lapta for many years and in his later years spent most days in the Cafe de Paris in Girne where, if you visited there, you would have seen him reading or playing board games with his friends.
Ingo was always at pains to make you aware he was Bavarian not German. Unfortunately, Ingo passed away alone and was found by a good friend of his on Friday morning.
If you did know Ingo, this news will make you very sad, he was a character, the like of which we will not see again. To my everlasting shame, I never asked Ingo his surname.
Ingo will be laid to rest in Lapta Cemetery on Tuesday 27th July 2010 at 12 noon. I will be there to bid farewell to an old friend.
