Pauline’s Pooter | Windows 10 Nightmare

Pauline's Pooter Windows 10 NightmareWITHOUT PREJUDICE

When Hewlett Packard offered me Window 10 for free, I thought….yes I’ll have some of that. I did buy my laptop direct from them so I thought, this was their way of rewarding customers. Bah…I wish I had never allowed them to download it. I have had nothing but problems ever since.

My screen has reduced itself and the usual methods to enlarge it to fill the screen do not work. One being to maximise it, but of course since the little box to click onto that enables it is not on the screen, but hidden away somewhere on the right, I cannot do this. The little two headed arrow only brings it so far then stops short.

Now a message appears on my screen saying:

“Start menu and Cortana aren’t working. We’ll try to fix it next time you sign in. Sign out now”

Well, I have signed in 5 times now and they haven’t fixed it. However if you click onto the big Chrome sign you can get online BUT, and there is always a but, you cannot rid yourself of the big orange sign with the above message on, nor can you bring the page back to normal. None of the Windows or HP help links work either.

So how am I writing this. Thank goodness I kept my old laptop with my old Windows on. I shall not be putting Windows 10 on this one.

70 year old Luddites do not need this complication in their lives. Microsoft, pull your finger out.

By the way….who or what is Cortana?

Pauline Read

Editor: No, Cortana is not a 1960s car, it’s the Windows help assistant which, if it was working, would have helped fix the problem. I’d avoid Windows 10 for a few months until they iron out the bugs.

Solution: Get rid of Windows 10 using the instructions here

Pauline has been trying to uninstall it but all sorts of pop ups appear whilst trying to do it with the big message in orange remaining on the screen almost obliterating everything else and the only way to get rid of it is to sign out…which is a catch 22 situation.

MICROSOFT. You are driving Pauline MAD.

Oh well, my Windows 10 seems quite stable, even I am quite stable which is surprising given the events of late, mainly use my laptop for TV, bit of overkill maybe, don’t like them never have much prefer my desktop but when needed they are helpful, always said I would never buy one, however I do take it out for a few beers sometimes and make use of some free WIFI – it likes that!
