North Cyprus Author Robin Melhuish New Novel April Fools’ DayNorth Cyprus author Robin Melhuish of Karsiyaka, publishes new novel April Fools’ Day.

During a visit to a war cemetery in Germany one day, an odd looking name in the list of the dead triggered something that set me off on a journey to write this story. I started creating scenarios of how the name could have ended up in there, a cemetery for the SS. The story grew in the back of my mind for almost 20 years, until finally I found the peace and tranquillity in North Cyprus, to put my garbled thoughts together into this book. It’s a combination of historical facts and real figures with fictitious characters thrown in, characters based on a mix of the anecdotal stories about famous Nazis that were told to me by eyewitnesses over drinks and meals in the many years I spent living and working in Germany.

April Fools’ Day is a story of coincidences. On 1st April 1924, Hitler was tried for treason for the Beerhall Putsch, then 1st April 1933, the Wewelsburg Castle was acquired by Heinrich Himmler and the Waffen SS, and 1st April 1945, Wewelsburg was liberated by the Americans.

The main character’s passion for old German stamps sucks him into a whirlpool of events to try and solve the puzzle surrounding one of the last unsolved mysteries of the Third Reich.
