Lefkoşaspor

150px-KK_crestThe Turkish Football Federation announced their decision to demote Ankraspor from the Turkcell Super Lig over the club’s links to rivals Ankaragucu, which the country’s football authorities said were anti-competitive. In order to avoid relegation to Turkey’s second league the club has to be sold and transferred by the weekend. What is causing concern is a proposal put forward jointly by Lefkoşa City Council, the head of the Turkish Cypriot FA Omer Adal and Metin Ozerem, head of the TRNC Department of Sports. This is seen as a way of breaking the sporting embargo while giving young Turkish Cypriot footballers a real chance of playing in top flight football. This plan, if it is accepted, would further boost the status of football in north Cyprus and might motivate young footballers who could now hope to play professionally and perhaps eventaually even internationally.

North Cyprus Free Press have designed a badge for the new Lefkoşaspor football team and wait eagerly for their Champions League match against West Ham.
