Cyprus Problem | North Owes South €1.3bn for Electricity

According to Hristos Tufeksis, Electricity Authority of Cyprus (AIK) Manager, since 1963 the north has built up €269m of outstanding electricity bills plus €1.018bn of interest. It is not clear whether this energy has been delivered directly to the TRNC government, who then charged for it, or to individuals in the north. It is also unclear how the south could bill the north for the electricity as they don’t recognise them. It is also not clear why the south continued doing this when the bills were clearly not being paid. KibTek are having the same problem but are now applying pressure on the TRNC government to pay their bills.

However, I’m sure the TRNC, or more precisely Turkey, will pay the bill once the Cyprus Problem is solved and it is clear who owes what to whom is worked out.
