According to the south’s Cyprus Weekly, Turkey is looking to buy a $1.5 billion offshore platform from Malaysia and place it alongside the Greek Cypriot platform. Apparently the idea is not to actually extract oil or gas but instead just to be provocative. Laughingly, south’s President Anastasiades said that this move could seriously jeopardise the non-existent talks.
It is rumoured that the south’s President might return to the talks in exchange for Turkey withdrawing from the oil and gas exploration area. Mind you, bets are on as to how long it will take him to walk out again because he isn’t getting all his own way.
