North Cyprus Elections | The Casualties Including ex-PM Kucuk

According to Kibris newspaper numerous Deputies have lost ‘their seats’ and were not re-elected, including ex-PM Irsen Kucuk. In the case of UBP, casualties included the General Secretary, Necdet Numan, the Speaker of the Assembly, Hasan Bozer, UBP’s Chairman, Ahmet Caluda, former Deputies Ali Cetin Amcaoglu, Serife Unverdi, Mutlu Atasayan and Ertugrul Hasipoglu as well as Turgay Avci, Ali Riza Usluer, Mustafa Gokmen and Mehmet Tancer. On top of that, Turgay Tokel, Ilkay Kamil and Afet Ozcafer, former UBP Deputies who moved to the DP-UG, were also not elected.

Serdar Denktas, chairman of the DP-UG, see the election results as a ‘miracle,’ with an 125% improvement on their previous results. The general consensus is that CTP ‘won’ and UBP support collapsed with, according to Afrika newspaper, their biggest defeat in history. Interestingly, no candidates with a union background managed to get elected, showing voters’ increasing lack of confidence in unions.
