Cyprus Problem – President Anastasiades Honours Greek Cypriot 1963 Fighters

In an act of, in my opinion, gross stupidity ,President Anastasiades presented ‘honorary’ certificates to those involved in the fighting in the 1963-64 period when the newly formed republic was dismantled. The ceremony took place on 21st December in Nicosia and seemed to support the events of that period including the creation of the Akritas Plan written, according to the late Glafcos Clerides, by the late Tassos Papadopoulos. This document is often pointed to as proof that the south wanted to rid itself of Turkish Cypriots and even suggests that Turkey might be legally justified in intervening in Cyprus under the Treaty of Guarantee.

What on earth was President Anastasiades thinking? Surely this is not the act of a man who intends creating a united Cyprus.
