Cyprus Power Vacuum - Kibtek Struggling to Supply ElectricityCyprus Power Vacuum – Kibtek Struggling to Supply Electricity

There is a rumour that Kibtek will soon be struggling to supply power in north Cyprus because the Aksa power station in Kalecik has had to shut down its main generators, as it does not have enough fuel. It had apparently been trying to import fuel with 3.5% sulphur dioxide, despite the importation of that fuel being banned from January 1, 2016.

The source of the report is limited and not confirmed in many places so I am left wondering whether the report is true. You would think that something with such far reaching potential effects would be published widely, especially as Greek Cypriot media would use it as an example of the north’s incompetence.

The story is missing from the pages of the main English language online newspapers, Cyprus Mail and the Famagusta Gazette, so I guess I’ll have to wait to see if Cyprus Today repeats it tomorrow. That’ll confirm it as being true, won’t it…NOT.
