Cyprus News | Rain Forecast

Well, yes and no or ‘yo’, if you like, which is the answer to a vague question where either answer would be right. I’ve been watching the weather forecasts for the Lapta region for a few weeks now and have regularly been told it was going to rain. I wrongly cut back on the garden watering and subsequently watched my plants shrivel. Now the forecast is that it isn’t going to rain until October. That is, in the Kyrenia area. In the south it poured down.

Limassol and Larnaca districts experience flash floods and hailstones and torrential rains for more than two hours, resulting in a river overflowing and dividing a village in two. Locals alleged that the council not clearing the river was beng the cause of the flooding along with the removal of vegetation which they insisted would have prevented it. Somehow I doubt it, two hours torrential rain onto sun baked earth has a habit of collecting and causing floods. Anyway, someone has to be blamed and the council is a much more satisfactory target than mother nature.
