North Cyprus News - Cyprus Today 14th September 2019

North Cyprus News - Cyprus Today 14th September 2019This week’s Cyprus Today adds details to some of the articles already published on NCFP. North Cyprus News is best followed online as newspapers usually carry out of date news. I don’t know why Cyprus Today hasn’t moved into the internet in a much bigger way than it has, using adverts to monetise its online presence in the same way as the paper version – with adverts. Oh well.

TRNC Rocked by Blasts – TERRIFIED tourists and expats have told how they feared for their lives after a series of explosions at an army base rocked the villages of Arapköy, Esentepe and Çatalköy, including the Acapulco hotel, in the early hours of Thursday.

Ministers and military officials have ordered an investigation into the incident, BRITISH expats living in South Cyprus should move to the TRNC because of Brexit, Prime Minister Ersin Tatar has said. He made the comments during the British Residents which began at around 1.30am at a munitions depot and lasted for over three hours. Windows and doors at the hotel were blown out by the blasts that showered shrapnel over a wide area, with flames lighting up the night sky. No-one was killed although 12 people, including holidaymakers, suffered minor injuries, mainly from broken glass, nine of whom were discharged the same day after.

‘Immigration rule change will impact foreigners’ – TIGHTER immigration rules to be introduced next month could hit tourism and affect life for expats living in North Cyprus due to radical changes to visa and residency permits.

The issue of the new rules is to be taken up this week in discussions between the British Residents Society (BRS) and head of the Immigration Department, Emre Hacılar. Mr Hacılar confirmed to Cyprus Today yesterday that the “over-60s gentlemen’s agreement” — under which there was no need for residency visas for that age group of expats — was to be replaced with the requirment for a temporary residency permit that has to be applied for once every three years.

Prime Minister urges South’s expats to move North after Brexit – BRITISH expats living in South Cyprus should move to the TRNC because of Brexit, Prime Minister Ersin Tatar has said. He made the comments during the British Residents Society (BRS) annual Summer Dance which took place at the Merit Royal hotel in Alsancak last Sunday and was attended by 250 people. The PM used the event as an opportunity to comment on the UK’s planned departure from the EU.

Sorry nothing else worth repeating.
