North Cyprus Consumer – Burning Pine Wood

Many people believe that if you burn pine in a fire or a stove then resin will coat their chimney and eventually ignite causing a fire there. Professionals even tell you that this resin is in fact creosote and that this substance is restricted to pine wood burning.

Firstly, all woods create creosote which can reach your chimney in the smoke created by a poorly burning fire or using unseasoned wood. The trick to burning pine and reducing the creosote output is to use small seasoned logs in a hot fire. This is true for whatever wood you use. So, plan your wood purchases so that unseasoned wood has an extra 6-12 months to season.

You should also clean your chimney regularly, once a year in the UK but probably not so often in Cyprus because we have less fires.
