Popular Science News | Beware Crashed Electric and Hybrid Cars

There is a warning to beware approaching crashed electric and hybrid cars. The main reason is that the extra powerful batteries they contain could cause death by electrocution. Suggestions are being made that these cars should be clearly marked and that there should be clearly labelled switches that enable the power to be turned off.

The battery pack in a Tesla Roadster, for example, consists of 7,000 batteries under the hood of a single car. Manufacturers are installing fuses and circuit breakers that disconnect the batteries when the collision detectors become aware that the battery pack is about to sustain damage. Unfortunately these safety measures are optional.
