North Cyprus News | Cyprus Today - 1/3/2014North Cyprus News – Cyprus Today – 30/8/2014

Bit short of news but, in my opinion, compared to The Star and The Cyprus Weekly Observer it comes out top of the English language local newspapers, but only just when you take into account The Star‘s expose articles. Pity about The Star’s turn off front page.

FRONT PAGE

Expats duped by con artists – three expats lost up to £100 which they gave to a woman pretending she had been locked out of her home and needed to pay for a locksmith. Editor: this story has got to be more important front page news than expats being conned out of millions in property scams. Perhaps CT should warn expats about cons involving asking expats for money to build property for them where they never transfer the title deeds.

Point-to-point scheme hailed – a new speed camera system is going to be tried out on the Girne-Lefkosa road after it netted 900 speeding drivers at Haspolat.

Municipality ‘blitz’ on unregistered dogs – Girne are cracking down on dogs which are not registered or micro-chipped. Owners face up to 6 months imprisonment for breaking the law. Editor: I wonder if other more serious crimes, like property fraud for example, bring similar penalties.

‘Strays being shot’ – in Lapta according to Kyrenia Animal Rescue who say they have witnesses.

THE REST

Machines to serve up food for strays – a special vending machines set up in Lefkosa exchanges rubbish for free food for stray dogs and cats. Editor: it is good to see strays collecting rubbish but does it check their microchip before dispensing food?
