Curry's Cover Plan | Read the Small PrintWithout Prejudice

I recently had occasion to take back a George Foreman Grill with a fault to Currys. It said, instant replacement on the Curry’s Care Plan cover so, like an idiot, I assumed I would walk out with a replacement identical to the one I purchased.

Wrong. It seems the Cover Plan only covers you for the amount you spent and if, like me, you bought yours whilst it was on sale, if you want an exact replacement, you must pay the difference.

It was quickly pointed out to me that this is what it says on the Cover Plan document. Well bludger me, they were right. Only one problem, I was not invited to read this BEFORE paying the £10 premium, nor indeed did the sales person point out that in the event of a fault, the price at the time the fault shows itself is the price taken as guide. If the appliance is no longer on sale or has gone up then you must pay the difference. I wonder if they offer a refund in the unlikely event, at the time of the fault, the appliance is cheaper, rhetorical observation.

It might be interesting to know how much the premium would be for the appliance at full price when not in the sale.

I am still waiting for the phone call telling me they have the replacement grill to the same value as the amount I paid for George. It is not a George Foreman and it only grills 5 portions, not the 7 I had with George. This was not my first George Foreman, I love the way it grills and am very sad I am having to settle for something else. I would not give Currys another penny of my money.

George…..I do miss you.

The moral of this story is, it would seem Cover Plans are about as necessary as P.P.I. was and we all know what happened there.

The UK has robust Consumer Protection Legislation. Rely on that.

Frank Bruno brought out a range of toasters shortly after the George Foreman grill hit the shops, true to form it only managed 4 rounds then it threw the towel in!

    Nice one WG

I note now that if you buy your George Foreman from Argos they come with a 4 year guarantee.

So since Currys INSTANT REPLACEMENT Care Plan does not do what it says on the label, you definitely do not need it. £10 down the pan as far as I am concerned.

Left George at Currys on the 12.02.15 at 10.05 am. It is now 17.02.15 at 7.04 am and I am still waiting for a REPLACEMENT albeit it will not be a George.

    Good going Currys.

At least they could be honest and rename it “We don’t give a shit plan”

Given the EU consumer laws regarding purchases of electrical equipment, worth checking out with the citizens advice people (not the TRNC one), these extended warranty plans are probably unnecessary in most instances.

Yes I agree. Nice little earner for Curry’s on this occasion.

Collected a Russell Hobbs multi grill. Not was wanted and waited seven days for Instant Replacement

Way to go Currys. I guess you have lost a customer permanently and couldn’t give a shit.
