Kyrenia, its five castles and the medieval town

Date: Friday, November 20, 2009 — Time: 8.00 pm (doors open: 7.30 pm). — Venue: Château Lambousa, Lapta.

Hans Doeleman (founder of the Medieval Cyprus Fellowship) will deliver an illustrated introduction to:

KYRENIA,

ITS FIVE CASTLES AND THE SECRETS OF THE MEDIEVAL TOWN

After the announcement of three (now fully booked) walks through medieval Kyrenia (1, 8 and 15 November), there are still 81 interested people on the waiting list!

I may organise more walks later in 2010, but for now I think it’s a good idea to repeat my lecture on Kyrenia (Cerennia of old).

The reading is much more extended then I can do during a walk, so if you want to learn all that’s known – come to the reading.

During the talk I’ll show many maps, photographs and drawings. Kyrenia will never be the same for you…

The reading is also available on CD (the complete text and all illustrations) and can be obtained at the Saturday Lambousa Market.

The fascinating north east tower of Kyrenia Castle. The base is Byzantine (around 900 AD), the tower itself is Lusignan (from 1191). It has a Venetian cannon port, arrow slits for the heavy crossbows and (top) slits used by archers before the crossbow was invented. Photo: Hans Doeleman
