‘More are dying from diabetes than Covid-19’ – MORE people in the TRNC are dying from diabetes than Covid19, according to a top doctor. Prof Umut Maraşuna, Cyprus Turkish Society of Endocrinology general secretary and an endocrinology and metabolic diseases specialist, said in a recent interview to mark World Diabetes Day and the 100th anniversary of the discovery of insulin that while Covid-19 “has surpassed all illnesses” the number of deaths linked to diabetes is “much higher than the number of Covid deaths”.
