North Cyprus News - Cyprus Today - 15th June 2019North Cyprus News

Well it’s that time of the week again, another edition of Cyprus Today hits the news stands and before you know it, they’re fish and chip paper. Not much in this week’s edition but it’s a weekly so it has to report all the ‘news’ of the week, even if there is very little to report. It’s a bit Shakespearean this week – Much To Do About Nothing.

TRNC CRIME CRACKDOWN – POLICE are launching a summer-long nationwide crackdown on crime in a bid to calm public unease in the wake of the violent robbery of a Girne jewellery shop, a mass brawl in Lefkoşa — and the emergence of mafia-style protection racketeers.

The get-tough move comes after two robbers were able to flee to Turkey from Ercan airport last week, hours after attacking a Girne jeweller and stealing £130,000 worth of stock, and despite their description and a “wanted” notice being sent to authorities at the airport.

Expat ‘lost almost half money’ from sale of home – AN EXPAT property-seller has warned others to exercise care after claiming that he received little more than half the money from the sale of his property in Çatalköy.

John Groaves, 79, and his wife Joan, 78, said their lawyer told them that their three-bedroom apartment on the Sea Vista development had sold for £60,000 on September 26 last year — but he only received £32,000, with the rest apparently deposited in someone else’s account.
