North Cyprus Law – Laura the Laptop Now Missing for 4 Years

Today marks the 4th anniversary of Laura the laptop’s incarceration in Girne police station.

I have no illusions that she is actually languishing there, what I do think is she became someone’s birthday/bayram present a long time ago. There I have said it. I am sure I am not alone in thinking this.

So much for the assurance by the police the day they took Laura, without my consent, that she would be returned within two weeks, once they had examined the hard drive. Dishonest police, would you Adam and Eve it?

Of course in reality, in my opinion, there was no search warrant, there was no arrest warrant and there really was no need to do what they did. In my opinion, the police involved were doing a mate a favour and trying to intimidate me. It worked for at least a whole day.

The attached blog from the time it happened tells the story far better than I can.

I have to say that the support I received at that time was extraordinary and I take my hat off to all you, you made me feel pretty humble.

The pretext for the pseudo arrest and confiscation was my reporting of the Geoff Day case and although, I have to say, Geoff has always been a gentleman and never betrayed me, I cannot say the same for his former wife Mary who in my opinion, stabbed me in the back and pushed the knife right up to the hilt. She was allegedly even a member of the Hate Group calling for my deportation. The group still exists on Facebook as a ‘SECRET’ group so I have no idea what they are up to now. I guess since the pseudo death of Hak Hukuk, who proved without a doubt a male can multi-task, he managed to be so many glamorous women to befriend as many men as possible and thus increase the membership. Eventually the activity was bound to decrease. What a lot of trouble to go to over a little old lady in her 70th year?

The last four years have been a rocky ride for me and although I have been appalled at the disgusting behaviour of some who seek to further victimise property fraud victims, I have also been heartened by the support which has far outweighed the hate from my detractors.

I suppose it is difficult for some to understand that I wished to help without being paid for it. An odd concept in today’s world, but true nonetheless.

I was very touched by the level of support given to me by the posters on the then Cyprus 44 forum and will always be grateful to them for their kind words.

294 posts and well over 6000 hits, I still miss Cyprus
As you all are aware, I am still in the UK due to Agile’s health problems which turned out to be more severe than we first suspected. He is however still very much alive and I was not killed in a car crash as stated by one of my ‘admirers’.

We take each day as it comes and will return to north Cyprus if circumstances permit.

Never give in never give up.

How anyone can have any respect for the TRNC police is beyond me. The theft (for that is what it was!) of the laptop at the behest of you-know-who was a scandal. Have they no shame? Well, of course they haven’t.

Also, the “lady” you mention was certainly sucked-in by the hate group. Sadly, I had to “unfriend” her when her hate messages started appearing on my FB page.

Indeed fluter, how soon she forgot this act of kindness initiated by Agile who was insistent she could not face the ordeal of arriving at the airport with no one to meet her.

He with Pauline insisted on taking her to her villa, checking everything was safe and in working order for her and safe.

Of course, as always there was ‘no charge’.

He even more than Pauline is appalled at her behaviour and having her name put to the hate article that appeared in another publication.

  • Hi Pauline,
I’ve just sent you a facebook message, regarding Laura.

Pauline got the message and replied nigelh.

Been indisposed for a week so just seen this. I remember the day and the events surrounding the kidnap of Laura.

I am convinced that some official will have given Laura to a family member and Laura subsequently passed on to the land where all computers finally go, replaced by some newer model.

Of course there is no paper trail and no way anyone could ever prove what happened to Laura.

I still have a receipt for her signed by police officer in charge that day.
