Robin’ snippets – so it’s tit for tat!

No sooner is Chrstofias back from Brussels after making his demands to Mr Barosso (See NCFP 20.6.2010: quote “Christofias has repeatedly underlined his message that his country will not accept a timetable for the talks, it will not accept the UN in the role as arbitrator”) than the new presidential incumbant in the North, Derviş Eroğlu, jets off to the New York UN for meetings with Ban Ki Moon and the Turkish special advisor on the Cyprus issue.

Derviş Eroğlu, apparently wants a summit meeting between the Greek Cypriots and the Turkish Cypriots under the aegis of the UN in New York. The report further states that he is unsure that Dimitris Christofias will attend, which is not surprising in the light of his views about the UN’s involvement in negotiations. However, Derviş Eroğlu thinks such a meeting would be beneficial.

Southern press sources report that Eroğlu has set down a deadline for ending the talks by the end of 2010. Furthermore they report that he expressed the opinion that the topics of property and terrorial rights should not be part of the discussions, but should remain a subject for separate negociation.

Sounds like a non starter if ever I heard of one, demanding exactly the opposite of the Greek Cypriot leader. Derviş Eroğlu is expected back in the TRNC on Thursday; CTA permitting 😉
