Kulaksiz 5 v Akfinans Bank – the beginning of the end?

“When I woke up this morning, you were on my mind”, well that certainly is true. As the oldie from Crispian St. Peters goes on to say, “I got troubles oh oh, I got worries oh oh,” but I also have something poor Crispian did not have, I really do have the love and support of wonderful people and if I do not say it often enough, I would like to thank each and every one of you for the support you give us and all of the property victims.

For those of you who will take the time and the trouble to be there this afternoon at Girne District Court, a very big thank you. For those of you who would like to be there, but distance prevents you from being there, a big thank you. For those of you who would like to be there but the fear of reprisals stops you, I would just say this, it could be your turn next and if God grants me the time and the strength to be there for you, I will be. For those who couldn’t give a damn – sod you!

This afternoon, Kulaksiz 5 will be in the spotlight, again. We all know this should not be happening, the sad reality is, it is. Each and every one of us is about as exhausted as any human can get. Our immune systems are probably ‘low’ because of the stress which makes us vulnerable to any illness. Our energy levels are running on ‘reserve’ for the same reason. Every time we have seen a chink of light, it has been cruelly taken away. You have all read the promises given by the Government, the Five Wise Men, the three man committee that never materialised. To have promises made but not kept is almost worse than no promises at all.

It is my opinion that this Hearing today could be the beginning of the end. I pray it will be the beginning of the end of all the suffering for Kulaksiz 5 but I am aware it could be the beginning of the end for all hope here in the TRNC. For Kulaksiz 5 that will mean having to wait for the judgement to come out of Strasbourg via the ECHR; a long, long wait for a decision that many of us may not live to enjoy.

A final message to all who know they are in the 1400 mortgage queue but are doing nothing, why aren’t you supporting those who are already at the head of the queue? If we fail, you follow. For those of you who have a property problem, big or small, but are doing nothing, do you really believe the builder/landowner or perpetrator of your problems, having dishonoured any promise or Contractual obligation to you is really going to do the right thing without you shaming him/her into it. If we fail, you fail.

Never give in, never give up.
