Turkey can enter EU without Cyprus settlement

whatThe European Parliament has just approved a draft European Council document which in effect rules out action against Turkey if they ignore the 2005 Ankara Protocol and do not settle the Cyprus problem. This is despite the south Cyprus President demanding that Turkey withdraw their forces and recognise the Republic of Cyprus.

The implication, if the Famagusta Gazette has got it right, is that Turkey’s route to the EU just got a little easier.
