HBPG’s Kulaksiz Construction Limited meeting at the Pia Bella Hotel

Abdurrahman Guney - Kulaksiz Construction Director

I attended the special meeting of Kulaksiz Construction Limited purchasers chaired by Marion Stokes of the Home Buyers Pressure Group today at the Pia Bella Hotel.  The meeting was attended by approximately 20 people amongst whom was another couple from Kulaksiz 5. In all fairness, Kulaksiz 5 are already engaged in legal action to try to address their problems and the problems voiced today were not largely mortgage related.

As we are all aware, the Property problems here in the TRNC are many and varied and the problems today reflected that. Kulaksiz Construction Limited, despite the heartache they have caused for the majority of their purchasers are still trading. Interestingly It was revealed today that the name Kulaksiz has been blanked out on their vehicles and equipment. The office Kulaksiz use on the ground floor in Karakum has been vacated and all their external signs removed. It is alleged that they are trying to let the ground floor showroom and are trading from the office above the showroom.

Out of respect for the fact that the people at the meeting did not want to be mentioned in print and would prefer to keep their own counsel., I will only give a brief outline of some of the problems. Kulaksiz are trying the usual con of forcing the purchasers to pay their taxes. It has to be a matter of personal choice whether purchasers go along with that. I personally would not. However, when you balance the legal costs and the stress court action can cause, I am sure there are some that will find paying the lesser of two evils. Many are still on builder’s electricity and even builder’s water rates. One development has no electricity at all, having had their emergency supply disconnected by Kulaksiz in another blackmail attempt to extort more money.

It also appears that Kulaksiz has now employed the services of an Advocate who already represents some of the purchasers. Of course this would not be allowed in the U.K., but as we all know, the Advocates here have no ‘duty of care’ to their clients, so I guess it is another case of anything goes.

Of course Kulaksiz still try to lay all the blame on Abdurrahman Guney (Hafis), who is said to be no longer be part of the company but who we all believe still ‘pulls the strings’, albeit from Turkey. That Kulaksiz are still allowed to trade demonstrates that the ‘powers that be’ have learned nothing. The Constructor’s Union, can and should do something to ensure that they are not allowed to ‘rip’ anyone else off.

Until positive action is taken to control these rogue builders, the industry cannot and will not recover.
