Daily Images | Flying Fish

Daily Images – I first saw a flying fish whilst out fishing for tuna off the North Cyprus coast. I’d heard about them but thought they might be a fisherman’s tall tale. I could not believe my eyes at first but when the fish flew for a second time I started to take in what was happening. It seems that the fish vibrates its tail up to 70 times per second while in the water and then jumps out the water and usually glides for about 40 meters. It can stay in the air longer by managing to use up-drafts created by ocean currents.
