Cyprus News | CTP-DP Coalition To Be Official Today

For the third time in 20 years CTP and DP have formed a coalition government. The other two occasions were in 1994 and in 2004. Today, Yorgancioglu, leader of the CTP-BG will submit a list with the names of the ministers to President Eroglu. DP-UG has been given the Interior, Education, Youth and Sports, Food, Agriculture and Energy and Health ministries.

Yorgancioglu said that this government will look to “reaching a bi-communal, bi-zonal solution based on political equality in Cyprus”. He will also seek to amend the constitution and submit it to a referendum in June 2014 at the same time with the local elections. He said that they will also amend the law on elections and referendum and the political parties’ law.

Some members of the CTP-BG tried to persuade MPs that the UBP has changed and that it was not the same one that had been in power. UBP will hold its extraordinary congress on Saturday 31 August, 2013 in order to elect a new president of the party after Irsen Kucuk’s resignation. Huseyin Ozgurgun, MP for Lefkosa, will be the only candidate for the position of the president of the party after a consensus was reached among the 14 members of the UBP’s parliamentary group.
