On the Ten Year Anniversary of the rejection of The Annan Plan it is worth reflecting how North Cyprus has benefited.

Back in 2004 the north submitted a list of 41,000 settlers and members of mixed families who would have remained in Cyprus after a settlement. Today, 10 years later, that number is 150,000.

By now only 6,000 Turkish and Greek soldiers would be stationed in Cyprus, according to the plan. By 2018 only 650 Turkish and 950 Greek soldiers would have been left. Instead in 2014 there are between 35,000 to 40,000 soldiers still here.

By 24th October 2007 Famagusta, Guzelyurt and another 50 villages and township would have been returned to Greek Cypriots as well as territory on the slopes of the Five Finger range. Instead the north gets to keep all the territory it took over in 1974 and looks likely to partition the north if the current talks fail.

So, let’s celebrate the Ten Year Anniversary of the rejection of The Annan Plan!
