North Cyprus Politics | Enter the National Power’s Party

Kibris newspaper (24.05.13) reports that the eight expelled National Unity Party (UBP) Deputies are to set up a new political party called the National Power’s Party (UGP). Apparently this party will be a centre left wing party which aims to set up a coalition with Sedar  Denktas’s Democratic Party (DP).

Whatever the outcome, it looks as if the elections, possibly in July, will bring a fragmentation of votes needing some sort of coalition to rule. Not good for the north and not good for focusing on the issues. As always, coalitions end up in compromise, in-fighting and weak government. You only have have to look at the UK and the mess the ConDem coalition is in to understand that.
