North Cyprus News – Asil Nadir to Complete Sentence in UK
The decision to refuse the application for Mr Asil Nadir to be transferred to a Turkish prison to complete the 10 year sentence imposed on the disgraced Turkish Cypriot business man was upheld by the High Court in London.
Mr Nadir is serving a 10 year sentence in Bellmarsh prison for fraud and theft of more than £30m from his Polly Peck empire.
Dismissing Nadir’s application to seek judicial review, Mr Justice Collins said:
“It is a considerable hardship, but he has brought it on himself by escaping from this country and fighting prosecution for a substantial period of time.
“That has resulted in his mother becoming more elderly and more infirm.
“If he had faced the music back in 1993 he would have been released by now.”
Many wondered why Nadir did turn himself in after such a long period, a decision he clearly will have plenty of ‘time’ to regret.
