Medieval Cyprus Fellowship Winter Programme 2010/11

The Medieval Cyprus Fellowship (MCF) is launching its winter programme 2010/11, in cooperation with the British Residents’ Society (BRS), with historical lectures East of Girne (Altinkaya Holiday Resort) and West of Girne (Chateau Lambousa). The first lecture will be East of Girne (on request of expats who find Lapta to far to travel).

MCF-founder Hans Doeleman will give a richly illustrated (pictures and maps) introduction to the start of the Crusades movement and the important part that Cyprus played during the Third Crusade and later. The title of this rewritten and extended lecture is “The conquest of Cyprus by King Richard I, The Lionheart”. (Reason for and start of the Third Crusade 1189-1192,  – Richard’s conquest of Cyprus in 1191, a “Blitz Krieg” of only four weeks..!). (3x circa 20 minutes).

After the lecture there will be time for questions from the audience.

– Date: Wednesday, Oc tober 6, 2010. Time: 8 pm.

– Entrance (option 1): 10 TL, doors open 7.30 pm; bookings via email to [email protected] have priority.

– Entrance (option 2, dinner/lecture: bookings ONLY!): 6.30 pm: Dinner (meze, chicken with mushroom sauce, fruit/desert. Drinks excluded, but with special BRS prices). Price: 40 TL, including 10 TL entrance to the lecture.
