According to the Haberdar newspaper (15.05.13), the deputy head of the trustee committee of the Near East University (YDU) Dr Irfan Gunsel, reported that there was an increase in the number of Greek Cypriots visit the hospital for medical treatment. It had reached a point where 10% of around 500 patients receiving care daily at the hospital had come from the south.

Dr Gunsel commented that:

“Greek Cypriots, who didn’t even take a bottle of water from the Turkish Cypriots, now they trust their own life to the Turkish Cypriots.”

It appears that the majority of these patients from the south were attending for medical treatment for heart and cancer diseases.
