Cod Baba the Plaice to Eat

Whenever I fancy Cod Roe and chips which, looking at my expanding waistline, is a little to often, I mobilise Agile Chris and we hot-foot it down to Cod Baba. It is not just because I do not know anywhere else to get Cod Roe either.

As soon as you pull up outside, Fatos is there with her ready smile and a cheery hello. Gunes is usually in the kitchen cooking and since the kitchen is fully visible, the cleanliness is apparent for all to see. Since their toilets are always clean too, they certainly get my seal of approval.

Geoffrey the waiter, who is clearly considered by his employers as more like one of the family by the way they treat him, is there with your menu and his shy but friendly smile too.

The service is good, the food is excellent with the sort of choice you expect in a British style fish and chip shop, with deep fat fried chips from ‘proper’ potatoes, none of your frozen chips at Cod Baba. The prices are reasonable too. Cod Baba can be found on the road going into Girne on the Lapta/Alsancak side. If you fancy a take away, you can get that to.

If I had been blessed with a daughter, I would have been truly blessed with one like Fatos, sadly I wasn’t so Fatos has to put up with me thinking of her as my adopted daughter. Fatos and Gunes are a lovely couple with a lively intelligent son named Eddis. What a lovely family and what a pleasant way to eat good old ‘fish and chips’. Now if you are still hungry after your meal which I doubt you will be, try a deep-fried battered Mars bar – just thinking about it increases the waistline!!
