Phew what a scorcher!

I remember such headlines as a child in my father’s Daily Mirror. In the UK they were referring to temperatures approaching 30oC, 80oF in old money. The newspapers in Cyprus, however, were talking about a new record high in Lefkosa. Sunday’s temperature, 45.6oC (114oF), was the highest recorded since the beginning the 1900s.
