Fuel Spill ‘Must Act as a Warning’ – 2 tons of fuel spilt from a tanker at Bogaz, whilst being, relatively minor, should be a warning of the potential environmental damage that could have been done.
Municipality ‘Broke the Law’ – the fire in Lapta started by the municipality and described in NCFP was not only against the promises made by Fuat Namsoy, the mayor, but was against the law. Despite this, fire engines and police stood by and allowed it to burn. The Environmental Protection Department head confirmed it was illegal and so far the only comment from the mayor was to remain unrepentant and say that it was a one off and will never happen again. Editor: watch this space for the minuscule punishment he’ll receive, which will be far cheaper than disposing of it legally. Criminal charges will, of course, not be considered.
Shock action over unpaid bills – power has been cut to the ministries over unpaid electricity bills.
