Expat’s Fight to Come Back – A retired nursery school teacher deemed an “undesirable immigrant” by TRNC authorities is fighting to be allowed back into North Cyprus. Sue Harrison is banned from returning because an illness she never knew she had showed up on a blood test for temporary residency three years ago. The 61 year old contracted Hepatitis C from medical blunder in the UK back in 1976. It wasn’t until she and husband Trevor bought an apartment in Çatalkõy and retired to North Cyprus that the illness was discovered. She is now fully clear of it. She was getting treatment in North Cyprus when she was told she would be deported. The Police had told her she would be put in a cell prior to being deported. Instead she and her husband crossed the border into the South to head home. Out of date laws are preventing her from being allowed back into the country. Fevzi Hussein, chairman of Embargoed! said “Unfortunately this is yet another example of negative PR for the TRNC”. The Interior Minister said the government was working on changes to the rules barring visitors with health issues.Alleged Fraudster recruiting for new Cyprus business – A Briton alleged to have been involved in various frauds has set up home in the TRNC, where he is recruiting for a new business based in South Nicosia. Guy de Montfort – born Graham Leaver in Dartford Kent walked out of Leyhill Open Prison after being jailed for 3 years for cheque fraud in 1987. He was also deported from the US amid claims that he had duped and stolen money from a series of wealthy women. He has advertised on the Cyprus 44 forum for British passport holders to work for him. He claims to have spent 26 years in the Rhodesian army’s Special Forces Unit, from 1960. The unit was not formed until 1973 and was disbanded in 1980 and no record of his service could be found.
