‘COWARD WITH AN EVIL MIND’ – SIX cats have been found dead and a further 20 are missing after a poisoning incident occurred on Monday in the İskele region. The incident was reported to Cyprus Today by Boğaz-based animal lover Jan Mcghee, who said that on Monday morning a number of cats which she routinely cares for at her home were not present to be fed, but that she initially thought little of it due to the hot weather. However, she then found a halfeaten dead fish outside her gate and began to suspect foul play. The fish, as it turns out, had been laced with poison. Ms Mcghee said that from Tuesday onwards she began to find dead cats around her residence, and that after a while the smell of the dead cats in the area became unbearable.

Lapta mayor denies water switch claims – CLAIMS that Lapta Municipality has been supplying residents with water from local sources rather than water from Turkey stored in the Geçitköy Reservoir are “ridiculous”, Lapta Mayor Mustafa Aktuğ has said. “People are commenting that local municipalities are reverting back to well water so they do not have to pay the higher price for the Turkish water, whilst still charging their customers for the water from Turkey,” a reader said. Neither Girne Mayor Nidai Güngördü, whose municipality is responsible for the village of Doğanköy, nor anyone from the TRNC Waterworks Department was available for comment.

Report highlights human trafficking in the TRNC – THE TRNC “does not meet the minimum standards for the elimination of trafficking and is not making significant efforts to do so,” a new report into global human trafficking has stated.
