CALLS FOR PRINCE TO VISIT THE TRNC – PRESIDENT Ersin Tatar has invited Prince Edward, the Earl of Wessex, to visit the TRNC when he arrives in the island for a three-day visit starting on Monday.

Association slams ‘govt inaction’ in care home scandal – THE Association of Elderly Rights and Mental Health has released a statement asking what, if anything, has been done to improve living conditions at the Sınırüstü Care Home since harrowing footage of the squalid conditions in which its elderly residents were living went viral on social media in January.

New 2-storey limit for Mehmetçik area – ALMOST all new construction projects within the Mehmetçik Municipality area will now be limited to a height of two floors, after a new zoning plan was published in the Official Gazette. Exceptions will be made for buildings in the Bafra Tourism Area, where buildings will be allowed to reach the lofty heights of three storeys, provided that the ground floor is a shop.

Turkey sending two 25-megawatt mobile generators – TURKEY is to send two mobile power plants to North Cyprus to help alleviate electricity supply problems that have dogged the country for months, Finance Minister Sunat Atun has said. Mr Atun made the announcement following a meeting with Turkey’s Energy and Natural Resources Minister Fatih Dönmez in Ankara on Thursday. He said that two 25-megawatt generators to be sent from Turkey will depart from a port in İstanbul today, and that they should arrive in the TRNC by next Thursday or Friday and be up and running in “early July”.
