Cyprus Problem – Anastasiades Steps Out of Line

It looks as if the south’s President Anastasiades has at last decided to break ranks with the other parties. He presented his proposal for a joint declaration which included one change to the document submitted by the UN and, supported by the members of the negotiator’s support team, decided to ignore Diko, Edek, Euroko and Green’s rejection of the proposal.

He rejected the idea of pulling out of negotiations and following the south’s equivalent of a Plan B and instead laid the groundwork for the resumption of talks. It now appears that he may be his own man and at last it seems as if the man who a great deal of hopes were placed on, has woken up to the fact that only he, in the south, can bring about a solution to the Cyprus Problem.
