Stamps seem too thin and flimsy to be worth much. According to Paul Fraser Collectibles, however, the world’s most expensive stamp, the Swedish Tre Skilling Yellow, was last publicly valued in 1996 at $2.33m (£1.48m), in spite of weighing roughly 0.027 grams. This represented a 133 per cent increase on its £1m sale price in 1990. The stamp was later sold privately for an undisclosed sum in 2011, but it is still listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the most valuable commodity on earth by weight at $85.98bn per kilo.
