Daily Images | Royston Cave

Daily Images – Royston cave is a small man-made cave situated in Royston in Hertfordshire. Some say that it was used by the Knights Templar who had founded nearby village of Baldock. It is more likely that it was as a cell for members of the hermit-like anchorite order from the nearby Augustinian Priory.

The cave is unique in Britain because of its medieval carvings on the walls. Some of the figures are thought to be those of St. Catherine of Alexandria, St. Lawrence and St. Christopher.
