The House of the Rising Sums – Linda Orams, who lost her home as a result of a court case in the UK, has to pay taxes on it because, according to TRNC law, she still owns it. According to Sibel Siber that’s the law BUT the point is that the previous government made a big thing of compensating her and didn’t. Editor – what a witty headline, ‘The House of the Rising Sums’, on par with an article about an employee losing a court case concerning an industrial accident in which he lost both legs – ‘Not a Leg to Stand on’.
Unpaid are ‘going hungry’ – workers at Mehmetcik Municipality have refused to work until they get their July pay. Instead they are protesting using placards with messages such as ‘we are hungry’ and ‘we want our rights’. The mayor said the municipality owed 1bnTL so couldn’t pay bills. Editor: I wonder if the mayor has been paid?
