Food and drink prices will soar – importers warn food and drink prices will increase by up to 90% thanks to new taxation. Imported cheese is likely to rise by 30-40% along with imported water, coffee and potatoes. The ban of imported olive oil is also expected to push up oil prices. The Cyprus Turkish Food Imported Union president responded by wondering why products which the TRNC cannot produce are taxed and argues that more people will shop in the south taking business away from the North’s shopkeepers. This rise will also impact prices in restaurants and hotels and therefore tourism
