KKTC Republic Day | Silent Peaceful Candlelit Vigil 2010

KKTC Republic Day | Silent Peaceful Candlelit Vigil 2010WITHOUT PREJUDICE

Exactly two years ago today, the news on NCFP included details of the Silent Peaceful Candlelit Vigil which had been held the previous day. Thanks to Ismet the coverage by the press was excellent at that time.

Since the link above is to news of two years ago I personally see no need to delete any of the excellent photos.

Today, 15th November 2012, we again celebrate Republic Day here in North Cyprus, with the usual military pomp and ceremony and the usual excellent air display over the harbour around 3.00 pm at Kyrenia. Those who live in the area will have seen these Turkish pilots practising over the Kyrenia area during the last few days. It is well worth going into the centre of Kyrenia, in the harbour area, to watch this free air display.

Has anything changed in the two years since the Vigil? Well for those with mortgages taken on their property after they purchased. there does seem to be a chink of light with the emergence of Mortgage Law 11/78 section 21. Maybe emergence is not quite the right word, it is not new, it has been on the statute books since 1978 but it seems it had slipped the minds of the legal professionals for the last few years. Perhaps if their memories had been better, or their knowledge greater, many elderly victims would have been saved much suffering and grief.

Remember, for Kulaksiz 5 the main case with its first hearing starts on 28th November at Girne District court. I say starts, this may well be a very short hearing with many more to follow. The case still has a long way to go, but it ain’t over till the fat lady sings and I am still cramming in the cream buns.

Never give in never give up
