According to Kıbrıs Postası, there is to be a 24 hours air traffic controller strike at Ercan Airport on 14th March 2013, starting at 0830. The controllers are complaining that they have not been appreciated and that promises given to them by successive governments have not been honoured. Add the disruption of this strike action, and threats of repeats in the future, onto the recent price rises the airport is being subjected to and you can see even more people using the south’s airports.

Mind you, if you were flying into Ercan from London on March the 14th and had to book a flight right now then a single would cost you around £130 with either Pegasus or Turkish Airlines. Going south, however, would cost around £180. Even with the taxi cost difference, a couple would save money flying into Ercan. Not today, of course.
