North Cyprus News | Nicosia Hospital Loses All Patient Records

News that Nicosia State Hospital in the north have lost years of health records is not only frightening, it is downright scary.  In this technological age, how is that possible?  It follows close on the heels of news of a bank who in the process of updating its computer system caused great inconvenience to its account holders only last week and for almost a week.  We live in the 21st century, yet technology for which man takes the credit is still the Master. Why?

“Following the breakdown of Nicosia State hospital’s computer system in early March, all health records dating back to 2002 (11 years) have been irretrievably lost. The hospital deals with thousands of patients every year. However, due to a technical problem, all data input about their health, examination results and medicines are now gone. The so-called backup system was proven to be deficient. Apparently, the problem involved the computer’s hard drive and even though it was eventually sent to Turkey for expert examination, nothing could be done. Currently all health records are being kept on paper, while the Health Ministry decides on a new automation system.” [LGC News]
