North Cyprus Government | Elections & Referendum on 29th June

It would seem in north Cyprus that some who have the vote there are some who have all the ‘rights’ without the responsibilities. Then there are some without a vote who have all the responsibilities without the ‘rights’.

Referendum to be held on 29th June

North Cyprus News – Voting

The TRNC parliament is to hold a referendum alongside the local elections on 29th June. Parliament has voted unanimously in favour of a series of changes to the constitution comprising 20 articles which cover the environment, individual rights and the judiciary, ‘Kibri Postasi’ reports.

The proposals include removing the restriction on public sector workers’ rights to join a political party. Although public workers would need to take unpaid leave in order to take up executive positions in a political party.

If the proposals pass the referendum, elected MPs would need to declare their wealth and that of their wife and children before being permitted to take the oath.”

Will the outcome of the referendum make any difference? Answers on a postcard to the ‘couldn’t care less’ department at the Ministry of the Interior.
