Cyprus Hotel Fatally Breaks Building Regulations Requiring Shatterproof Glass

Yesterday, an 8-year old Russian boy died after crashing into an Ayia Napa Hotel revolving door. The glass in the door shattered and the boy was severely injured by shards of glass, later dying in hospital. According to the Cyprus Mail, “authorities have ruled out the possibility of criminal negligence on the part of the hotel, as the glass doors in question had warning stickers on the top, middle and bottom.”

Somehow it seems to have escaped “the authorities” attention that building regulations requires shatter-proof glass in communal areas and to release this denial in such a short time seems to indicate a possible lack of thoroughness and that the findings of an inquest would have been more appropriate.
