“Business Lunch” at The Rocks Hotel, Girne

A friend called and asked if I would join her for a ‘ladies who lunch’ and suggested that we go to the Rocks Hotel where they serve a business lunch for 28TL (11.30 – 14.00). I thought this would make a nice change from the “2 meals and 2 drinks for 50TL” and I could relax and enjoy my food instead of mentally preparing a review. I was so impressed that I could not let this one slip by unnoticed.

We arrived at The Rocks Hotel in Girne and decided to have a drink outside before eating. For those who don’t know, The Rocks is a 5 star hotel and everything about it confirmed that rating. We finished our drinks and entered the restaurant. All the tables have linen table cloths and a single fresh red rose. The waiter came immediately with the menu, an oil dip and a very large bread basket with a varied selection of breads, which was left on our table. The business lunch menu really surprised me, the amount of choice on it was extensive. Tumblers are on all the tables and the waiters are constantly filling these with water form a jug… not charged for.

We ordered our meal and when the starters arrived, my Caesar salad came with just cheese and no chicken (I hadn’t noticed there was a choice between plain or chicken but had said I wanted chicken.) This was no problem for the waiter who returned to the kitchen and very shortly came out with three skewers of chicken on a side plate. This truly was a lunch in itself. My friend had the Rocket salad with mozzarella which looked equally tempting.

Our main course; mine the veal steak and my friends the Fettucine cream and mushrooms. The veal steak was accompanied by fresh al dente vegetables and about four potato wedges. Presentation and taste could not be faulted. Everything was cooked to perfection.

We both chose Tiramasu for desert. These were individual and very tasty.

Adjoining the restaurant they even have a smoking room – “Smoky Bar” – where we retired to drink our coffee;, excellent Turkish coffee too.

For an establishment of this class and perfect ambiance I found the price for the Business lunch amazing – the portions are large! Neither quantity or quality have been denied. A glass of wine was 8TL; not bad for a 5 star hotel.

Truly excellent value for money and just a little bit different for a lunch with friends.
