Introducing British born Turkish Cypriot designer Eda Tayfur’s first Handbag Collection

Eda Tayfur's first Handbag CollectionBritish born Turkish Cypriot designer Eda Tayfur starts 2012 by presenting her first handbag collection, comprising clutch, shoulder and messenger bags. Sharing her name with Eda the Nordic Goddess of Time and Material Things, Tayfur’s Eda London label aims to fuse British fashion with Turkish charm to create beautiful, versatile luxury handbags that are both stylish and practical. Each Eda bag is made-to-order, hand-produced by the UK’s leading craftsmen using the finest exotic materials to create timeless standout pieces suitable for any discerning woman’s wardrobe.

The young designer is aided by Peter Sipiano, the label’s Head of Production. With over 40 years of experience working with leading brands, department stores and high street chains, he is one of the UK’s most experienced bag makers. Together they carefully consider every detail, from the inside lining to the outer trims, ensuring Eda bags have all the trademarks one expects of a designer brand – beautiful bags that are luxurious to touch and built to last.

Eda London’s first collection of handbags is made from full grain leather, lamb nappa, and exotic skins such as python, with cotton or goat suede for the lining. Eda bags all come with standard features such as magnetic locks on identical external Eastern styled ‘V’ flap pockets, an internal zipped pocket and a mobile pouch. The Ohana range also has a unique spongy strap, so even the heaviest bags won’t dig in to shoulders. Key colours in Tayfur’s first range include black, moon, and natural.

  • Clever Pixie – a handbag suitable for all occasions. Wear as a clutch or attach the leather strap and cleverly transform it into an elegant shoulder bag.
  • Day Pixie – this stylish everyday bag has an adjustable cross body leather strap and is top zip fastening, with a favoured Eda feature of two identical flap pockets and magnetic locks.
  • Night Pixie – the third member of the Pixie family, use as shoulder bag or pop the metal chain inside to create a sophisticated evening clutch.
  • Eurasia – this messenger bag is ideal for the modern lady on the move. Its cute curve design is inspired by bags traditionally used by nomadic Turks riding across Central Asia.
  • Ohana – the name for this handbag range derives from the Hawaiian for ‘family’. An elegant shoulder bag, the Ohana’s size makes it ideal for both day and evening use. Its unique design includes the trademark Eda spongy strap and ‘feet’ on the base.
  • Lua Ohana – a two-in-one stunning and versatile handbag. Use as a standard Ohana or transform with a quick fold and clip via magnetic lock to create a small evening wrist bag.
  • Mama Ohana – the largest within the Ohana range, this stylish shoulder bag comes with standard Eda features: a strong and spongy strap, top zip fastening, two identical side flap pockets with magnetic locks, an internal zipped pocket, mobile pouch, and ‘feet’ on the base.

Eda Tayfur said, “I’m really pleased with this first collection. My vision was to combine my Turkish roots with British styles to create versatile luxury handbags. There is an Eastern element in every Eda handbag, making them very distinctive looking, both contemporary yet classic, stunning yet practical, so women can carry something special on their arms for years. I’m really pleased with the initial positive responses I’ve had from both customers and people in the industry.”
